(Answer) (Category) OpenLDAP Faq-O-Matic : (Category) OpenLDAP Software FAQ : (Answer) What LDAPv3 features/extensions are NOT supported by the OpenLDAP server?
The OpenLDAP server, as of 2.3, does not supports a number of elective (RFC 4510) features and extensions (RFC 4522) of LDAP.
The OpenLDAP server (like most other LDAP server implementations*) does not (yet) support the full X.500 administrative models, including:
  • DIT Structure Rules
  • Name Forms
  • Subschema Administration (2.3 does support schema administration via cn=config)

The OpenLDAP server (like most other LDAP server implementations) does not (yet) support certain features new to the recently revised LDAPv3 Technical Specification (RFC 4510).

  • Internationalized String Preparation (RFC 4518)

The OpenLDAP server does not implement the following Standard Track (and elective) extensions:
  • Server Side Sorting of Search Results [RFC 2891] (use client side sorting instead)
  • Collective Attributes [RFC 3671] (use collective overlay instead)
  • LCUP [RFC 3928] (use LDAPsync instead)
